Whether you’re assigning a biography book report, planning a biography project, or teaching informational writing, this resource gives students a clear structure for organizing research and presenting their findings.

These templates can be used during a biography unit for elementary students, helping students organize their research and write clear biography reports.
What Is a Biography Report?
A biography report is a structured project where students research a real person and present information about that person’s life, accomplishments, and historical impact. Unlike a simple summary, a biography report organizes research into sections such as early life, major events, character traits, and legacy.
Students may complete a written report, lapbook, trifold display, or creative presentation to demonstrate their understanding.
This resource provides the templates and organizers needed to guide students through the entire process.

Biography Research Graphic Organizers
Before students can write a biography report, they need structured note-taking tools. This resource includes a variety of research organizers that can be used for any historical person.
Some organizers guide students to collect specific information such as early life, education, and major accomplishments. Others provide more open-ended “fact” collection for flexibility.
Timeline organizers help students sequence major life events, and character trait organizers guide students in analyzing personality and impact. Multiple versions are included so you can adjust complexity by grade level.

Biography Report Template Options
One of the strengths of this resource is flexibility. Teachers can choose the format that works best for their students.
Full-Page Biography Report
The full-page biography report template includes structured sections such as:
- Cover
- Table of Contents
- Early Life
- Education / Training
- Importance in History
- Major Events
- Timeline (two formats)
- Character Traits
- Quote
- Personal Reflection
- Books & Websites
This format works well for a formal biography book report or graded writing assessment.
Here are examples of the full-page Biography Report options.

The full-page and half-page options provide plenty of room for writing and illustrating.

Use specific pages for your classroom or help students choose specific pages that align with the information available for the person they are studying.

Here are the two timeline options. Students can use the graphic organizer for the timeline to take notes on all the major events in a person’s life, then choose six or eight events to illustrate and write about for the final report.

Or, for a shorter option, use just four main events and a condensed version of the facts and quote pages seen above.
Use a piece of construction paper for both sizes, fold it in half, and make a booklet, as seen below.

Half-Page Biography Report
The half-page version mirrors the full-page content but in a smaller format. It’s ideal for:
- Shorter biography reports
- Younger students
- Students who need reduced writing volume
Students can assemble these pages into a small booklet using folded construction paper.

Students who need extra room can use multiple pages of a section. For instance, to extend the timeline, use 2-3 pages for 4-8 events.
Again, fold a piece of construction paper in half, staple it, and glue a cover on the front for a small booklet.

Trifold Biography Report
The trifold biography report condenses major information into one display. It’s perfect for:
- Biography project presentations
- Students who feel overwhelmed by longer writing tasks
- Displaying student work in the hallway

Biography Lapbook (Two Sizes)
The biography lapbook option allows students to create an interactive report with foldables and layered sections.
There are two versions:
- Small lapbook (great for younger students)
- Large traditional lapbook (file folder or construction paper)
These lapbooks can also be adapted for interactive notebooks.

Small Lap Book
The small lapbook is created using a small piece of construction paper. It has interactive notebook options and
The small size is great for younger students or those who struggle with too much information and pieces.

While the half-page report options can be used for the small lapbook, there are also specially designed report pages. They are similar to the half-page version but oriented in a landscape page format.

Large Lap Book
The large lapbook is a more traditional size. The photos below show it with a piece of construction paper. A file folder can also be used.

Most of the foldables come in multiple versions so that you can choose what works best for your students or so that they can choose what will work for the person they are studying.
The foldables mimic the full-page report options above but in a more condensed format.
Students can place the full-page report in the middle of the lapbook. I often use this as a place to include all the graphic organizers.
Construction Paper Biography Person
This creative option allows students to assemble their report onto a construction paper “person.” Templates for heads, hands, and layout instructions are included.
This format turns a traditional biography report into a visually engaging biography project idea.
