Warm-Blooded Vs. Cold-Blooded Animals Science Sort
Teach students about Warm and Cold-Blooded Animals with an engaging, colorful sorting activity. This SORT for Inheritance of Animal Traits is aligned with the Next Generation Science Stations for Third Grade. In this station, students sort animals depending on whether they are cold or warm-blooded vertebrates.

What is Included in the Inheritance Sort Station
Included in the Sort about Warm-Blooded and Cold-Blooded Animals is:
- Larger table-group color sorting cards
- Smaller cut and paste sort for individual students
- Differentiated questions in short answer, fill-in-the-blank, and multiple-choice formats. Worksheet and task cards are included for some options.
- Answer key
The short reading passage describes the attributes of warm-blooded and cold-blooded animals so that students can classify the animals. The reading passage tells students which animal groups are warm or cold-blooded as well as describes how animals retain, acquire, or get rid of heat.

Warm-Blooded vs. Cold-Blooded Animal Sort for Table Groups
There are two ways to do this sort. One way is in table groups where students look at the images and determine whether an animal is a cold or warm-blooded vertebrate.
There are many different animals in this sort. Most animals should be familiar to students and include rabbits, cats, snakes, and alligators. All of the cards are labeled with the animal name and include a color picture of the animal
Students need to figure out the characteristics of each animal and categorize them into the correct group.

Cut and Paste Sort Option
Also included is a cut and paste option. Students can do both options: sort the color cards as a whole group and complete the cut and paste worksheet individually. Or you can choose to have students do only one option.
The cut-and-paste option is in black-and-white and in worksheet format. Students look at the image of each animal and then sort it into the correct category: warm-blooded or cold-blooded.

Differentiated Responses
Like all of our science stations, differentiated responses are available for students to demonstrate their understanding. Below is an example of the short answer worksheet. Fill-in-the-blanks and multiple-choice task cards are also available.
