Looking for an end-of-year craft that’s also meaningful? This memory flap book craftivity gives students in grades 2–5 a hands-on way to look back on their year, from the first day of school to their favorite field trip to what they’re looking forward to next year. Students write, draw, color, and assemble, then take home a keepsake that will last.

End of the Year Memory Flap Book.

It works well as a two-week project in the lead-up to the last day of school, and the finished books make a great hallway display while they’re in progress. If you’re looking for something more traditional with reflection worksheets and awards, the End-of-Year Memory Book and Activities is another option.

With this Memory Book Craftivity, students can create a lasting memory of their school year – one that will be remembered for years to come!

How to Use This End-of-Year Flap Book Craftivity in Your Classroom

The key is spreading the project out over the last two weeks of school rather than doing it all at once. Here’s an approach that works well for grades 2–5:

Two Weeks Before the Last Day

Introduce the flap book and have students complete one or two pages per day as a morning warm-up or afternoon wind-down. Start with the pages that require the most writing — First Day, Favorite Things, and Fond Memory — while students still have focus and energy.

The Last Week of School

Set aside one class period for cutting and assembly. Students sequence their pages, staple on the left side, and add the optional “My Fantastic Year” topper. Once assembled, have students use the blank back pages as signature pages — classmates sign each other’s books, just like a yearbook. This is always a student favorite.

Display the completed books on a bulletin board or in the hallway for the last week. Parents love seeing them at pickup, and they make a meaningful keepsake to send home on the last day.

What’s Included in This End-of-Year Flap Book Craftivity

Included in the memory book are flap book pages that allow students to write about and reflect on the following topics:

  • First Day of School
  • Favorite Things
  • Friends
  • Field Trip / From Home (These two are the same size. They can be layered or students can just use one option.)
  • Fond Memory
  • Forward Thinking (goals for the summer and next year)
  • Finish Well (reflection on the previous year)

The open-ended prompts work across grades 2–5 — second graders can write a few sentences per flap, while fourth and fifth graders have plenty of space to write in depth.

All graphics on the pages were chosen for their flexibility across a range of grade levels. Only the optional topper comes in a “cute” kids’ version.

EOY Flapbook Pieces

The memory book pages do require a bit of cutting. They are designed to require some assembly time, which is great for the end of the year! Be sure that students can use scissors well enough to make the right-angle cuts shown below.

A hand flips through the EOY Flapbook assembled—a colorful, tabbed booklet labeled “2025,” “Friends,” “Field Trip,” and more—filled with handwritten notes and memories, displayed on a wooden table.

Once assembled, consider allowing students to use the blank, back pages as signature pages. Students can sign each other’s flap books.

I love this activity. because of Covid we weren’t allowed to take field trips. Is there any way to edit out field trip and put something about virtual learning.

    1. Jessica Boschen says:

Awe. Yeah, I get that. Did you take a virtual field trip? That could be a possibility.

The resource isn’t easily editable. You can do some manual editing before copying it and create your own tab in place of a field trip.

I’ll take a look at how I can add in a virtual learning option.

    2. Jessica Boschen says:

I figured it out! I added a “from home” option that is a duplicate of the “field trip” page. It’s available whenever you’re ready to purchase and download it 🙂

I just downloaded this flap book. Please tell me where to get the alternate page.

        1. Can you tell me which alternate page you’re looking for? The new “From Home” page is right after the “Field Trip” page. They are the same sizes. Future years are located at the end of the PDF.
