Fun, engaging, easy-to-prep math centers and worksheets for three-digit addition & three-digit subtraction. Each set uses a variety of place value and base-10 models and strategies so that students can become proficient in adding and subtracting three-digit numbers.
Below is information on each resource:
Three-Digit Addition Task Cards for Math Centers includes practice activities to help your students solidify their understanding of how to add three-digit numbers using a variety of models and strategies.
Included are four levels of three-digit addition equations that move from simple to complex:
- Add 100s
- Add 100s & 10s
- Add All Place Values without Regrouping
- Add with Regrouping (three subsections): regroup 1s only, regroup 10s only, regroup all places
Also included are pre-/post-assessments and quick-assessments to monitor progress along the way. You can easily differentiate instruction.
There are five main strategies that are practiced through the activities in this packet:
- Use a Number Line
- Use Base-10 Blocks
- Break Apart (Ungroup) one or both addends
- Add with Vs (hundreds to hundreds, tens to tens, ones to ones)
- Vertical Adding by Place Value
Activities and strategies are repeated at each level so that students know the process and can apply it with different levels of three-digit addition equations.
All the cards are in black and white. Print the cards on colored paper and laminate. Students use whiteboard markers to do the problems, erasing when done so that other students can use the same problems.

These Three-Digit Subtraction Worksheets include practice activities to help your students solidify their understanding of how to subtract three-digit numbers using a variety of strategies, including a number line, base-10 blocks, breaking apart (or ungrouping) the addends, and place value strategies.
Also included is an editable PowerPoint template of the pages where you can insert your own numbers for even more practice.
Three digit subtraction can be complicated for students who do not have good number sense. The worksheets and activities in this unit focus on developing number sense while subtracting three-digit numbers.
The problems move from simple (subtracting 100s) to complex (regrouping at any place value) while practicing these main strategies: Use a Number Line, Use Base-10 Blocks, and Break Apart (also called Ungroup, Incremental Adding, adding by Place Value). The Break Apart Strategy is illustrated in two formats: using a V and adding 100s to 100s, 10s to 10s, and 1s to 1s. Both of these strategies are the same but formatted differently for different learners. The strategies are generally repeated at each level so that students learn to apply them to different problems.
Included are four levels of three-digit subtraction equations that move from simple to complex:
- Subtract 100s
- Subtract 100s & Tens (no regrouping)
- No Regrouping
- Regrouping
- A: Regrouping 10s to 1s only
- B: Regrouping 100s to 10s only
- C: Regrouping 100s to 10s OR 10s to 1s (one place only)
- D: Regrouping ALL Places & Across Os
You can differentiate instruction and give students just what they need to successfully subtract three-digit numbers.
There are four main strategies that are practiced through the activities in this product as well as pages that compare the strategies.
- Use a Number Line
- Use Base-10 Blocks
- Break Apart (Ungroup)
- Subtract with Vs (Tens to Tens & Ones to Ones)
- Compare the Strategies
Activities and strategies are repeated at each level so that students know the process and can apply it with different levels of three-digit subtraction equations.
