Make a Small Booklet Out of a Piece of Paper

Want to learn a fun way to fold a booklet for students?  I taught my students how to fold this little booklet to record the results of a multiplication game.  It’s quite easy, once you get the hang of it and can be used for many purposes!

In my elementary classroom, I often needed students to record information in a quick and easy way, but not on a full sheet of paper. To make small spaces for students to record their thoughts, we would make these small booklets from a blank piece of paper. Students fold and make a single cut then fold again. #littlebooklet #elementaryclassroom

This small booklet is about 2 inches by 3 inches when folded and includes 8 surfaces for writing. I use them for games that students play in which they need to record the outcomes of each game.

How to fold a small booklet

Start with a legal size piece of paper. Students can use letter-size paper, but the pages will be smaller.

Fold in half longways. Then fold in half along the opposite edge and half again.

The fold lines will look like the above image. There will be four sections.

Unfold and you will have 8 sections.

Fold in half like a hamburger or along the smaller edge. Cut only one section on the side with the fold. Only cut one section (see photo).

Unfolded it will now look like this, with a cut in the middle.

Now, here is the tricky part: Pinch together the middle sections with the cut.
