Habitats Sort for Table Groups

There are two ways to do this sort. One way is in table groups where students collaboratively look at the images on the cards, read the brief descriptions, and then determine whether the plants and animals live on land or in water.

Elementary students sort whether plants and animals have a land or water habitat. This science station aligns with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for second grade. Students read a passage and have two options for the sort: color table sort and a black and white cut and paste sort. After sorting students respond to the sort and reading passage by answering questions in one of four formats including short-answer and multiple-choice. #NGSS #secondgradescience #secondgrade

There are different plants and animals included in this Land and Water Habitats sort. Students will look at each sort card, read about each animal or plant, and decide if each organism lives on land or in water.

This sort has colorful images that students analyze before deciding the type of habitat where each plant or animal lives.

Cut and Paste Sort Option

The second way to do the sort is a cut-and-paste option. Students can do both options: sort color option as a whole group and the cut and paste option individually. Or you can choose to have students do only one option.

The cut-and-paste option is all in black and white and in a worksheet format. After reading the informational passage, students look at the images, read the description of the plant or animal, and then sort each organism into the correct land or water habitat.
