Halloween Kindness Treat Bag Craft for Kids

Halloween is one of the few times of the year when the word “trick” appears in the vocabulary in a way that makes kids think about how their actions affect other people. This Halloween treat bag craft teaches students to treat others with kindness, taking that built-in hook and turning it into a writing and reflection activity your class will remember.

A fun Halloween craft for elementary students to complete during the month of October. The Halloween Treat Bag has students write about turning a trick into a treat. It focuses on developing kindness and reflecting on what to do when someone is going through something and how they can show kindness to that person. #halloweencraftivity #halloweencraft #growthmindset #actsofkindness

The treat bag craftivity gives every student a paper bag cover, three inside writing pages, and a set of graphic organizers to help them think about what kindness actually looks like — not in a general sense, but in specific situations they might encounter at school, at home, or in their neighborhood.

Why October Is a Good Time to Talk About Kindness

By the time October arrives, the novelty of a new school year has settled. Students know each other well enough that social dynamics are starting to show — who sits with whom at lunch, who gets left out of games, how disagreements play out on the playground. That makes fall an ideal time for an intentional classroom conversation about kindness.

Halloween gives you a concrete frame. The idea that a “trick” is something that happens to someone and makes them feel bad — and that a “treat” is choosing to respond with care instead — is something second, third, and fourth graders can hold onto. It’s not abstract. It connects to something they already know.

What’s in the Halloween Treat Bag Craftivity

The Halloween Treat Bag Kindness Craftivity includes three inside writing pages, four cover options, a bag handle, graphic organizers for brainstorming, and a reflection page.

Four cover options: Three filled designs and one where students draw their own Halloween scene. The drawing option works well for early finishers or classrooms where artistic expression is a priority.

Turn Tricks into Treats: This page presents students with scenarios in which something unkind has happened to a person: someone sitting alone at lunch, someone dropping their books in the hallway. Students choose three situations and write how they could respond with kindness. It moves the conversation from general (“be nice”) to specific (“here is what I would actually do”).

Treat Others with Kindness: Students write three ways they can show kindness to others. They can use the included graphic organizer of ideas as a starting point, choose three from the list, or come up with three of their own. These options support students who need more guidance and those who want to personalize their responses.

Memories of Kindness: A reflection page where students write about a time someone was kind to them and a time they were kind to someone else. Use this page on its own, paired with the other pages, or assign it separately as a quick reflection prompt.

How to Use It as a Classroom Display

One of the most effective ways to use this activity is to attach the completed pages to a real paper bag and display the bags on a classroom wall. Once the bags are up, students can write words of encouragement on sticky notes and tuck them into each other’s bags, the same concept as a bucket filler activity, with a Halloween theme.

The display works well in the week leading up to Halloween. When students see their peers’ writing, the bag becomes something to be proud of rather than something to turn in, and the encouragement notes add a second layer of classroom community-building.

Pairing This with Other Halloween Classroom Activities

This craftivity pairs well with The Real Me Halloween Craftivity, in which students write and draw about what makes them unique, who keeps them safe, and whom they can turn to for help. Together, the two activities make a strong SEL unit for the week before Halloween—one focused on self-reflection, one focused on how students treat each other.

The Halloween Treat Bag Craftivity is also available as part of a bundle of seasonal craftivities if you want a set of similar activities for other times of year.
