I actually used this with slightly older students(7th graders), but modified it a little by having them write a bit more descriptively and then extending the assignment to a writing prompt about what they feel most lucky about in their lives. They really enjoyed the craft even though they are at the middle school level and it was a great way to get them brainstorming ideas for their writing.
