ENGAGE
Objectives:
- Students will access their prior knowledge about waves, how waves travel, and the factors that affect waves in different ways.
- Student interest in waves will be elicited.

EXPLORE
Objectives:
- Students will work together to investigate waves. They will do this by observing what happens when waves move through various objects.
- Students will gather general information about waves.
- Students will begin to think about the factors that affect waves.
- Students will analyze and interpret data to provide evidence that waves transmit energy.
Parts and Duration:
- Part 1 (Check It Out): 15 minutes
- Part 2 (Read This): 15 minutes
- Part 3 (You Try It): 15 minutes
EXPLAIN
Objectives:
- Students will work collaboratively to observe the energy in waves.
- Students will listen to the teacher’s explanation about waves.
- Students will use the new information to revise their explanations about sound energy, how kinetic energy is changed to sound energy, and how sound is perceived by the ear and brain.

Objectives:
- Students will apply what they have learned about waves to a new situation.
