$14.78
Making Waves Science Stations for Fourth Grade Next Generation Science Standards include 8 different science stations where students can deepen their understanding of wave properties.

Making Waves Science Stations for Fourth Grade Next Generation Science Standards include 8 different science stations where students can deepen their understanding of wave properties. The focus is on 4-PS4-A and includes concepts such as sound waves, phones, different types of waves, ocean waves, vibrations, transverse and longitudinal waves.
Wave Properties Stations Include
- Vocabulary Cards in two formats with and without pictures.
- Watch – Students watch a video about sound or a video about waves then answer questions about the videos.
- Play – Students interact with a video game about sound then answer questions about the games.
- Investigate – Students read about sounds waves, construct a “phone” in order to investigate sound. Students then answer questions to reinforce the concepts learned.
- Diagram – Students read about different types of waves. They draw a diagram of their observations of waves. Students answer questions about the diagram.
- Read a Passage – Students read a passage about ocean waves and answer questions.
- Model – Students read about sound and model vibrations in sounds in different ways. Students then answer questions about the model.
- Explore – Students will read about the ocean and explore what they will have learned in a simulation. They will then answer questions.
- Sort – Students read about transverse and longitudinal waves and sort pictures into categories matching the wave of type.
Google Classroom™️ Components Include:
- Google Form™️ with Reading Passage & Differentiated Questions (for Watch, Investigate, Diagram, Read, Model, Explore and Sort)
- Google Slides™️ with Activity Directions & Worksheets (for Investigate, Diagram, Model, Explore, Sort)
Each station is designed to last about 15-20 minutes. Students may do one a day for eight days, two a day for four days, or any format that works for your classroom. Because there are additional activities for the Watch and Play stations, you can offer those as a choice within that station or offer them as an early finisher station, as well.
By working through this set of stations, students will gain an understanding of what happens when sound enters the ear. Many of the stations teach how sounds waves are generated. The Engineering Standards for fourth grade are also incorporated into this set of stations. See the preview for more details on the how the four physical science Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCIs) are combined and how the engineering standards are incorporated.

I used this with my fifth graders (we teach this concept in 5th in VA). My kids enjoyed all of the hands-on activities, and the notes were appropriate for their level. I appreciated the posters. Highly recommend.
