Processes that Shape the Earth is an Earth’s Systems Unit that addresses the second grade Next Generation Science Standards.
This product is one section of the whole unit:
ESS2.A: Wind and Water Change the Land (Cause & Effect)
There are three leveled passages, high, medium, and low, as well as Before Reading (three-part vocabulary cards and language development activity with the comprehension skill) During Reading (text dependent questions), and After Reading (comprehension with language development activity with the comprehension skill) as well as a Written End-of-Section Summative Assessment.
The activities in this product are great for all second-grade students including English learners and below grade-level readers. The Before Reading activity provide scaffolding for the comprehension skill using familiar content and scenarios. The three-part vocabulary cards allow students to interact with the vocabulary in a variety of ways.
The After Reading activity mimics the structure of the Before Reading activity and language of the comprehension skill so that students are familiar with the language patterns and need only use those patterns with new rigorous content.
See the preview for more information. Note: The preview is for the whole unit, but provides enough details to see the components available in each section.

Great resource, easy to use. My students loved it.

This resource really helped my EL learners have a deeper understanding of wind and water erosion and the cause and effect of both. They were able to make connections easily and be able to transform their thoughts into sentences which is always a big win for my EL's.

The cause and effect linking word sheets were really helpful in focusing which words/clauses I wanted students to know and use and the real world examples made the jump to science content much easier. The leveled passages were still a little too difficult for some of my students and some of the erosion/weathering vocab was different than my curriculum so I wish it was editable.

A wonderful resource and an addition to my unit of study. The students were engaged, and I had less prep!
