This mini-unit helps students understand the events leading up to the first Thanksgiving and gives them tools to make connections between those events. Through a variety of read aloud books, students describe the reasons why the pilgrims celebrated Thanksgiving.
To explain why the pilgrims celebrated the first Thanksgiving, students will:
- Create a class timeline
- Ask and answer questions (RI.1)
- Sequence events
- Make connections between events (RI.3)
Included in the unit is also a post-assessment to evaluate your students’ ability make connections between a series of events.
