CVC Phoneme Blending & Segmenting Cards

CVC Phoneme Blending & Segmenting Cards is a teaching tool to help students segment and blend sounds in CVC words. This resource builds students’ phonemic awareness skills.

There are two versions of the cards, in both color and black and white. One version is the traditional Elkonin boxes (sound boxes). This is a great resource to use with manipulatives. The second version has blending and segmenting cues (dots, loops, and an arrow) that match my other Blending Cards products.

All cards have a gray circle to hole punch and put on a ring for easy storage and practice.

The blending cards are set up so that students:

1. Say the sounds • • • (with the large dots)
2. Blend the sounds (with the dotted lines)
3. Say it fast (with the arrow)

The dotted lines indicate which sounds are continuous sounds and which are stop sounds. Continuous sounds have dotted lines before and after the sound to show that it continues. Stop sounds stop at the letter.

CVC Word Familes include:

Short A: -at, -an, -ap, -ad, -am, -ag, -ab

Short E: -eb, -ed, -eg, -en, -et

Short I: -ig, -id, -ip, -it, -in,

Short O: -ot, -op, -ob, -og, -od, -ox,

Short U: -ut, -us, -ub, -ug, -up, -un, -um, -ud
