Money & Item Cost Matching
A money matching activity where students match the cost of an item with the coins needed to pay for that item. Students can play this either as a matching activity or, as they become more familiar with the coins and value, as a concentration game. This game comes in two levels. Level one is a simple one to one matching. One item card for one set of coins. Level two is a challenge level. At this level, students must find two items that equal the set of coins and dollars. The challenge cards are labeled, but use the same set of item cards. Print a duplicate set of item cards to create two separate centers, on-level, and challenge.
Word problems
Multi-step, contextualized word problems require students to use their knowledge of coins and value. There are two sets of word problems. One set has the cost of the item on the page. The second set does not have the cost of the item on the page. Students must find the item cards they need for that word problem.
These can be used as two separate center rotations: First, as a matching activity or concentration game. Then introduce the word problems during the second rotation or use the word problems specifically for your second and third graders.
