Differentiated Responses

Each station includes three or four different ways to respond to the experience at the station: short answer questions, fill-in-the-blank questions, task cards with short answers, task cards with multiple choice. All the variations are similar to one another. Choose the format that best fits your classroom. Students are encouraged to use their science journal. Worksheets are included as well.

Each station is designed to last about 15-20 minutes. Students may do one a day for 8 days, 2 a day for two days, or any format that works for your classroom.

Physical Science

Force & Motion – NGSS 3-PS2.A

Students can deepen their understanding of force and motion. The focus is on NGSS 3-PS2.A and includes concepts such as force (push and pull), surface types and speed.

Static Electricity & Magnetism – NGSS 3-PS2.B

Students can deepen their understanding of static electricity and magnetism. The focus is on NGSS 3-PS2.B and includes concepts such as static electricity, magnets, and positive and negative charges.

Life Science

Life Cycles: Plants and Animals – NGSS 3-LS1.B

Students can deepen their understanding of plant life cycles and animal life cycles. The focus is on NGSS 3-LS1.B and include concepts such as animal life cycles, plant life cycles, and parts of a plant.

Ecosystems: Animal Group Behavior & Interactions – NGSS 3-LS2.D

Students can deepen their understanding of how animals interact with each other. The focus is on NGSS 3-LS2.D and include concepts such as social groups, animal homes, and migration.

Inheritance and Variation of Traits – NGSS 3-LS3.A and 3-LS3.B

Students can deepen their understanding of how plants and animals inherit various traits. The focus is on NGSS 3-LS3.A and 3-LS3.B and include concepts such plant identification, seed dispersal, changing leaves, animal survival and growth, classification of organisms, and warm-blooded and cold-blooded animals.

Ecosystems and Biodiversity – NGSS 3-LS2.C and 3-LS4.D

Students can deepen their understanding of how plants and animals live together within an ecosystem. The focus is on NGSS 3-LS2.C and 3-LS4.D and includes concepts such food chains, food webs, traits of organism change due to environmental changes, how animals affect their environment, invasive species, and biomes.

Plants & Animals Long Gone – NGSS 3-LS4.A

Students can deepen their understanding of how plants and animals live together long ago. The focus is on NGSS 3-LS4.A and includes concepts such fossils, history of Earth, comparing Mammoth and Elephants, paleontologists, and physical traits of dinosaurs.

Natural Selection & Adaptations – NGSS 3-LS4.A

Students can deepen their understanding of how plants and animals have adapted over time and within a variety of environments. The focus is on NGSS 3-LS4.B & 3-LS4.C and includes concepts such plant adaptation, survival of the fittest, bird adaptations, natural selection, regional plant and animal adaptations in the United States, plant and animal adaptations in the Arctic, hare adaptations, bird beaks, and mimicry.

Earth Science

Weather & Climate – NGSS 3-ESS2.D & NGSS 3-ESS3.B

Students can deepen their understanding of weather patterns and climate around the world. The focus is on NGSS 3-ESS2.D & 3-ESS3.B and includes concepts such weather, climate, severe weather, how clouds are formed, meteorology and weather maps, types of precipitation, meteorological tools, and climate zones.
